How Chronological Age Calculation Works

Age calculation is more nuanced than simple year subtraction because human calendars contain months of varying lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days) and leap years every four years. When computing chronological age between a birth date and a target date, our algorithm applies chronological day-borrowing:

1. Day Borrowing

If the reference day is smaller than the birth day, days from the preceding calendar month are borrowed (e.g., borrowing 31 days from July or 30 days from April) to preserve chronological consistency.

2. Month & Year Alignment

Similarly, if the reference month is smaller than the birth month, 12 months are borrowed from the reference year. The difference is then cleanly derived as completed years, months, and remaining days.
